It looks like the Nassau County Legislature is going to ditch the school safety cameras, and County Executive Edward Mangano is hand-wringing over how to fill the revenue gap that will create.
That shouldn’t be such a big problem if the cameras were installed for safety, right?
While Nassau County’s school zone speed cameras might have seemed like simple common sense, their implementation without warning or signage has – perish the thought – led a few folks to think that just maybe they were designed to raise cash, rather than improve safety…
The only sign currently with useful flashing warning lights in Nassau County is this one. I don’t know how legislators missed it…
