He led the league with 206 attempts, 830 yards and 69.2 yards per game in 1936. He completed 167 of 383 passes and tossed 25 touchdowns and 32 interceptions. A two-time Pro Bowler, Leemans won a championship with the Giants in 1938 and was a first-team All-Pro in 1939.
