With the benefit of hindsight, September 11th, 2001 signaled our entry into a never-ending Middle Eastern engagement/acid trip.
With bipartisan pressure building in Congress and support growing in the country for action, President Barack Obama is expected to announce Wednesday night that he will authorize U.S. military airstrikes in Syria as part of a broader plan to “degrade and destroy” the Islamic State extremist group in the Middle East, the Associated Press reports.
Obama also will stress the need to provide additional resources in the form of money, training and diplomatic support for those fighting the terrorist group responsible for murdering hundreds and beheading two American journalists.

There’s a small corner of my driveway at home that I often find myself starting at.
It’s where this guy I knew, Pat Danahy, sat in his car for well over an hour with the engine running. He refused to get out because it was cold that morning, and his little girl was asleep in her car-seat and he couldn’t bear to wake her.
The last anybody saw of him, he was helping his co-workers evacuate their offices at Fiduciary Trust near the top of the World Trade Center.
Like I said, I stare at that spot a lot.
