BACKGROUND

  • Garant, 60, of Port Jefferson, is running on the Democratic party line in the general election.
  • She is an attorney at Margot J. Garant Inc. in Port Jefferson, with a focus on real estate law, corporate law, banking, bankruptcy and debt, and trusts and estate planning.
  • Garant was the mayor of the Village of Port Jefferson for 14 years, retiring after completing her seventh and final two-year term in 2023.
  • She suspended her campaign as the Democratic candidate for Brookhaven Town supervisor in July 2023 because of health issues after having a stroke the month prior.
  • Garant graduated in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in finance and business from Lehigh University College of Business in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and earned a law degree from Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at Touro College in 1999. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2001.
