JAMES E. HODGE

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Hodge, 46, who is also running on the Working Families line, works at the Nassau County Board of Elections and is making his first run for public office.
  • He is a lifelong Long Beach resident and a 1994 graduate of Long Beach High School.
  • He served for 16 years on the board of directors of the Long Beach MLK Community Center, including nine years as president.

ISSUES:

  • Hodge said he is running for city council because “after many conversations with Long Beach residents,” he said he is “ready to tackle the issues that matter most to them: public safety, infrastructure and quality of life.”
  • He said that if elected he will use his experiences with the Nassau County Police Commissioner's Community Council and his relationships with religious leaders “to deliver a safer, stronger community in Long Beach.”
  • He also plans to continue his community-minded efforts by identifying “every issue that needs fixing,” such as unpaved potholes, burnt-out streetlights and street corners that need a trash can.
