Arnott Gooding
Arnott Gooding is running for Council Member, Town of Shelter Island
BACKGROUND
- Gooding, 78, of Shelter Island Heights, is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. He narrowly lost the race for town supervisor in November. He won a June primary for an open council seat as he seeks to join two Democratic running mates elected last November to the town board on a platform of “A Better Island for All.”
- He is chairman of the town’s Community Preservation Fund advisory committee.
- Gooding is retired from a building materials and construction systems company.
ISSUES
- Gooding said protecting drinking water, bays and creeks is one of his three top priorities. He said he supports measures to allow residents access to innovative/alternative septic systems.
- He said he hopes his background in construction can help the town develop more affordable housing “quickly and cost effectively,” while adding that he wants “smart development” on Long Island.
- Gooding said he hopes to bring more expertise to town government through positions such as a town planner.
