BACKGROUND:
- O’Neil, 47, of Brookhaven hamlet, is seeking the 3rd Legislative District seat.
- He is an associate adjunct professor at Parsons The New School for Design and owns an apparel company.
- He graduated from Colgate University with a bachelor’s in geology and from Stony Brook University with a master’s in philosophy.
ISSUES:
- O’Neil said his top issues are protecting the environment and water quality. He said he supports a proposal to hold a referendum on a 0.125% sales tax increase to fund a massive countywide wastewater treatment overhaul.
- He said he supports creating a comprehensive plan to fix the county’s roads and would advocate for federal and state funding to do so.
- He said public safety is an important issue. If elected, he said he would push to expand the Sheriff’s Transition and Reentry Team (START) program that provides individuals with the resources to restart their lives.
