Terence F. McSweeney
BACKGROUND: McSweeney, 39, of Babylon Village, is running on the Democratic, Conservative, Independence and Women's Equality lines. McSweeney, who was appointed to the board last year after the election of board member Tom Donnelly to the Suffolk County Legislature, is running to complete the last year of the term. He is a graduate of North Babylon High School and for the past 14 years has been a firefighter with the FDNY. He has also been a volunteer firefighter in North Babylon for 18 years. He is married with two daughters.
ISSUES: McSweeney said his greatest achievement in office was working with the town attorney to come up with legislation passed in April that bans the use of e-cigarettes in public parks and limits stores that sell those products to industrial areas. He said that if elected, he would like to continue to work on getting rid of “zombie” homes — unkept, abandoned homes that are in foreclosure. “If we can keep everything looking nice and the quality of life up to par, I think the residents will be very happy, so that’s going to be my main focus,” he said.
