BACKGROUND
- Birnbaum, 76, of Shelter Island is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election.
- He was elected Shelter Island Town Justice in November 2020.
- Formerly, Birnbaum was an attorney in private practice in East Hampton handling cases involving criminal, personal injury, real estate and family law.
- He was a public defender in Suffolk County until 1984.
- Birnbaum received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1969 and earned his law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1972. He was admitted to the New York State bar in 1973.
