- He is the owner and founder of the Carey Group, LLC since 2004. He was a partner at Plunkett and Jaffe, P.C. from 2002-2004.
- Carey was president of the New York City Economic Development Corporation from 1999 to 2002 and served as first executive vice president and general counsel from 1997 to 1999.
- He was a special adviser to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2002. He was chairman of the New York City Industrial Development Agency from 1999 to 2002.
- He began his career at Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison in 1980.
- He received a bachelor’s degree from the Catholic University of America in 1976 and earned his law degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1979. He was admitted to the New York State bar in 1980.
