BACKGROUND

  • Ryan J. Johnson, 33, of Bethpage, is a registered Democrat running on the Democratic Party Line.
  • He is an attorney at the Melville firm, L’Abbate, Balkan, Colavita & Contini, specializing in construction law. He previously worked as a law clerk for the U.S.House of Representatives' Committee on Oversight and Government reform in 2017 and at the deportation defense clinic. 
  • He received his law degree from Hofstra University and a bachelor's degree from Temple University. 

 

ISSUES

  • Johnson said he will work with the county to provide services in mental health, addiction treatment and critical support for victims of domestic abuse by securing the future of The Safe Center and using nearly $100 million in settlement funds from opioid manufacturers, retailers and distributors.
  • He said he would promote affordability measures for young professionals and families by implementing policies and programs to address rising costs, tax incentives for young families buying homes and housing options for public sector employees.
  • Johnson said he would audit county expenditures and prioritize spending on roads and infrastructure. He said he would stop placing elected officials’ names on municipal signs and limit mailings from government officials.
