BACKGROUND:

• McCarthy, 25, of Garden City, is in his first year at New York University School of Law in Manhattan. He is also running on the Working Families Party line.
• McCarthy graduated in 2014 from Chaminade High School in Mineola. He taught third grade from 2018 to May of this year at Cathedral School of the Annunciation in Stockton, California.
• McCarthy has a bachelor�s degree in leadership and public policy, and in religious studies, from the University of Virginia and a master�s in education from the University of Notre Dame.

ISSUES:

• McCarthy said he supports ending the practice of public officials sending out self-promotional mailers. He said he would also support nonpartisan redistricting.
• McCarthy said he would get back to every constituent who contacts him within one business day. He said he will host monthly town halls for constituents.
• McCarthy said he would protect the environment by investing in clean water, composting, bike lanes and public transportation. He said he will "support students by focusing on mental health, building connections between schools and Nassau Community College, and increasing vocational training."
