BACKGROUND:

• Schaefer, 53, of Westbury, is seeking her fifth two-year term on the county legislature. Schaefer is also running on the Conservative Party line.
• Schaefer has a bachelor's degree in communications from Adelphi University and a juris doctor's degree from Hofstra University School of Law. Schaefer is an attorney at Walsh Markus McDougal & DeBellis LLP, in Garden City.
• Schaefer chairs the Nassau County Legislature’s Planning, Development & the Environment Committee and serves as vice chair of the Towns, Villages & Cities Committee.

ISSUES:

• Schaefer said that during her current term she sponsored an amendment to the county’s social host law, which keeps cannabis and cannabis products on a list of substances that an adult cannot knowingly allow the consumption of by a minor in their home.
• Schaefer said that she worked "to uncover and correct thousands of errors in the reassessment process that cost residents thousands of dollars" and "to make reassessment information more readily available and understandable for our residents."
• Schaefer said that if reelected one of her top priorities will be "to continue to monitor water quality and prevent further pollution of Long Island’s water supply."
