BACKGROUND: Legakis, 63, of Setauket, is running on the Democratic, Working Families and Women’s Equality party lines in the general election. He has been an attorney at Legakis & Vetere, Esqs P.C. since 1995, taking on community-based and nonprofit cases, and was an associate at Glynn & Mercep, Esqs. from 1991-1995. Legakis served as a law assistant to a Civil Court judge in Queens County from 1989-1991, an associate at Kazazis & Associates from 1987-1988, and an associate at Ginsberg & Katsorhis, P.C. from 1982-1984. He earned his undergraduate degree in 1977 and his master’s degree in 1978 from Stony Brook University. Legakis graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1981. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1982 and to the U.S. District Court, Eastern District in 1982 and the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York in 1987. Legakis has been a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association since 1990 and a member of the District Court Small Claims Arbitrator’s Committee since 2001. He served on the Town of Brookhaven Ethics Board from 2012-2018.
