BACKGROUND:
- Maher, 64, of Baldwin, works as an advertising executive.
- Maher holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts degree in humanities from Hofstra University. She is a graduate of Touro University's Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. In 2021, she earned a Masters of Law from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University.
- Maher was the Democratic candidate in New York's Second Congressional District in 2014, when she lost to former Rep. Pete King (R-Seaford).
ISSUES:
- Maher said if elected she would advocate for repair of local roads, including those in her district that were damaged by intense flooding.
- She said she would press for additional property tax relief for senior citizens, more state funding for local school districts and student loan debt relief.
- Maher said she would push for a boost in health care benefits for 9/11 first responders. “I want to make sure they have the benefits that they were promised,” she said.
