BACKGROUND:

  • Griffin, 60 of Rockville Centre, represented the 21st Assembly District from 2019 through 2022. She the standing committees on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse; Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry; Environmental Conservation; Government Employees; and Higher Education. She served as chairwoman of the legislative commission on Toxic Substances and Hazardous Waste, an Assembly subcommittee. She also served on the Legislative Women's Caucus and the Task Force on Women's Issues.
  • Griffin graduated from SUNY Oneonta, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in business economics and minored in political science and communication. Before serving in the Assembly, Grifffin was director of community outreach and senior adviser to former State Sen. Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach).

ISSUES:

  • Griffin said she wants to explore ways to drive down costs and lower taxes for lower and middle class residents. Griffin says she has a record of securing state funding for municipalities, including for police department vehicles. In particular, she touted funding for a wellness center for the Baldwin School District and a forthcoming “all inclusive” playground in Rockville Centre, with adaptable equipment for students with disabilities. 
  • Griffin said she will be a strong advocate for women's reproductive rights and supports enactment of a state Equal Rights Amendment.
  • Griffin said she would work to promote public safety by securing more resources for law enforcement agencies. She said she wants to make sure crime victims are supported and receive resources in crisis. She said she supports legislation to hold drug dealers accountable if they sold the drug that resulted in a person's death.
