Olena Nicks

BACKGROUND

• Nicks, 33, of Uniondale, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. She currently represents District 2.
• She is a volunteer firefighter with the Uniondale Fire Department and was a trustee of the Uniondale Public Library.
• She is a finance and contract analyst for a higher education institution. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Baruch College of the City University of New York and an MBA from American University in Washington, D.C.

ISSUES

• Nicks said she wants to expand access to housing and homeownership so families, seniors and young people can stay on Long Island.
• She wants to improve quality of life by investing in infrastructure, community beautification and revitalized parks and public spaces. She wants to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community.
• Nicks said she also wants to support local small businesses to help them grow and add jobs.
