BACKGROUND:
- Ortiz, 39, of Lakeview, is running for state office for the first time. She is president of the Lakeview Library board of trustees. She also is a cofounding member of the Lakeview Civic Association and an executive member of the Lakeview Chapter of the NAACP. She is the social services committee chairperson for the Civil Service Employees Association.
- She is the founder and CEO of Creative Little Learners, a child care center in Lakeview. Previously, she worked for about a decade in commercial lending for Sterling Bank.
- She holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from SUNY Old Westbury.
ISSUES:
- Ortiz said she would advocate for more funding for education from early childhood through high school and “ensure the schools have everything they need to properly prepare children to be future leaders.”
- She said she would vote for clean water initiatives throughout the district and state. She said she would address the high cost of living and make sure residents are educated on the “programs that will help make sure they can afford and enjoy living on Long Island.”
- She said she would make sure people with disabilities have the resources to “help improve their health and overall well-being.”
