BACKGROUND
- Burroughs, 48, of Hempstead Village, is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election.
- Burroughs teaches history in the Hempstead Union Free School District and has been a Hempstead Village trustee since 2022.
- He received an undergraduate degree in sociology from the University of Buffalo and a dual master’s degree in special education and education administration from Touro University.
ISSUES
- Burroughs said he wants charter schools to find nonpublic funding sources because they are taking money away from public schools without being held to the same level of scrutiny as public schools.
- He said he wants Nassau Community College to be reorganized and restructured and add programs to increase enrollment while restoring state funding.
- Burroughs said he wants Nassau University Medical Center to eliminate nepotism and solve mismanagement problems. He also wants to ensure that salaries at the facility are fair, that it receives full funding and its budget deficits are eliminated.
