"I've become increasingly frustrated with government and I feel that I have enough experience and enough drive to do something about it," Heller-Smitelli said. "Additionally, my mother has instilled in me, from a young age, that's it's very important to be civically active."
Heller-Smitelli, 54, of South Huntington, is running on the Republican and Reform party lines. This is her first run for office. She is a civil litigation attorney for Davidson and Cohen in Rockville Centre. In 1982 she received a bachelor of science degree in environmental science and Latin American studies with a minor in Spanish and a concentration in French from the State University at Plattsburgh. She received a law degree from St. John's University. For 12 years she has been an assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. She is married and has three sons.
