BACKGROUND:
- Schroeder, 63, of Cutchogue, is a former registered nurse making her first bid for public office and is also running on the Working Families line.
- She is a former executive director at the North Fork Environmental Council and was part of the team that helped enact the original Community Preservation Fund. For the past 11 years she has been an aide for Suffolk County Legis. Al Krupski.
- She graduated with an associate degree from Suffolk County Community College.
ISSUES:
- Schroeder said she would work to protect the town’s environment and investigate creating a better tree code to prevent over-clearing of land.
- Water quality and quantity are issues that affect development plans, and she said she would advocate for applying smart-growth principles to Southold to contain development.
- She said it’s important to make affordable housing available for residents and plan how to best use money generated from the 0.5% tax that was approved for that purpose in last year’s referendum.
