Cathy A. Rogers

Cathy A. Rogers is running for Council Member, Town of East Hampton

Cathy A. Rogers

BACKGROUND

  • Rogers, 68, of Springs, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic and Working Families party line in the general election. She is seeking a second term.
  • She previously sat on the East Hampton Zoning Board of Appeals as vice chair for nine years. She was the chair of the East Hampton Democratic Party. She owns commercial property.
  • Rogers received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy with a concentration in humanities from the former Dowling College in Oakdale.

ISSUES

  • Rogers said she wants to expand early childcare opportunities for young families, especially in the western part of East Hampton.
  • She wants to review the town’s code to address the “short-term rental investment exploitation that’s happening in our town,” which she said threatens to turn neighborhood districts into commercial districts, impacts quality of life and is contributing to the “housing affordability crisis.”
  • Rogers said there needs to be discussions on viable business districts in Montauk, especially in the face of natural disasters, and plans in place in case of a disaster in order to speed up rebuilding and cut through “red tape.”
