Brian J. Hughes

Hughes, 66, of Southold, is running on the Democratic party line and is endorsed by Sustainable Southold. He has a private general law practice in Southold specializing in criminal defense since 1997. Hughes has been on the Southold Town Board of Ethics since 2008 and has been serving as chair since 2010. From 1990 to 1997, he was bureau chief and executive assistant district attorney in Brooklyn. From 1985 to 1987, he was special assistant state attorney general. He received his law degree from St John's University School of Law in 1985 and was admitted in 1986 to the New York State, Second Department bar. In 1988, he was admitted to U.S. District Court, Eastern District. Hughes is a former member of the Suffolk County 18b Panel from 1998 to 2014. Hughes is a member of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, New York State and Suffolk County bar associations.
