Alexa N. Suess

BACKGROUND

• Suess, 31, of Greenport, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. She is making her first bid for public office.
• She is active in the CAST, Community Action Southold Town, food pantry and the Greenport Business Improvement District. She said she organized the Miles for Medical Debt walk in 2022, which raised $700,000 toward paying medical debt for low-income families nationwide.
• Suess runs Common Ground Fine Jewelry + Studio in Greenport and Points East Design, a graphics and web development company. She studied the digital user experience at the School for Visual Arts and trained in data analysis with IBM.

ISSUES

• Suess said affordable housing is key so people can afford to remain in Southold, and she would encourage the town to seek pro-housing community designation, a state certification needed to be eligible for grants to communities working to address housing shortages. 
• She said she would work to help the town facilitate mentorship programs with schools and local businesses to create pipelines for youths that build skills local businesses need.
• The town has done a good job at preserving open space for public and agricultural use over the past five years, Suess said, adding that she would collaborate with nonprofits to manage the land and keep invasive species under control.
