Toni A. Bean is running for Babylon Town District Court Judge - 2nd District
Bean, 57, of Amityville is running on the Democratic, Republican, Conservative, Working Families and Independence party lines. She has been a District Court judge since her appointment to the bench in June 2004 by former County Executive Steve Levy and approved by the county legislature to fill a vacancy. That November, Bean ran unopposed for District Court judge. In 2010, she was re-elected. Bean’s legal career began in 1985 in private practice at the Harlem law firm of Walker & Bailey, a practice concentrating in personal injury litigation. Three years later, Bean moved on to Waxman and Wincott P.C. of Mineola, where she litigated personal injury cases until 2002 when she left to start a private practice in Amityville, which she left in 2004 to serve as District Court justice. Bean had also served as a trustee on the Amityville school board. She earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport in 1981 and a law degree from Howard University School of Law in 1985. Bean was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1986. She is a member of the National Bar Association, Suffolk County and Nassau County Bar associations, Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association, Amistad Black Bar Association of Suffolk County and the American and New York State Bar associations.
