Tim Walz

Tim Walz is running for United States Vice President

Tim Walz

Tim Walz, 60, is a second-term governor of Minnesota who previously served six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Walz was selected in August by Vice President Kamala Harris to serve as her running mate, a choice that came as Walz became increasingly visible making the rounds of the cable news political shows.

He served as the ranking member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee from 2017 to 2019, a role that followed 24 years in the Army Reserve. Walz enlisted after high school. He graduated from Chadron State College in Nebraska in 1989, and received his master’s in education from Minnesota State University Mankato in 2002.

Walz, a former high school social studies and geography teacher, often touts his middle-class upbringing. As governor he enacted a measure to provide free school meals to all of Minnesota’s K-12 students, signed a measure enshrining abortion access in the state, and has said he supports addressing immigration reform via a bipartisan immigration bill that, as negotiated, calls for increased spending on border security and tightening qualifications for asylum seekers.
