THOMAS D. MCCARTHY
Republican
BACKGROUND:
- McCarthy, 68, of Smithtown, is seeking his first term in office.
- He serves on Smithtown’s Board of Assessment Review and is vice chairman of the town’s conservation board. He has previously been vice president, director and regional manager for several service firms.
- He graduated from John Jay College.
ISSUES:
- McCarthy said his experience in the service industry and his skills in financial operations, administration, team building and project management would translate well to the town clerk’s office.
- His top priorities are increasing cybersecurity for records kept in the office in light of the 2022 cyberattacks on Suffolk County government offices; digitizing public records to make them easier for the public to access; and easing the ability for residents to file for permits for shellfishing, dog licenses and boating.
- He also wants to expand veteran services through the clerk’s office by helping them find home loans, health care and job opportunities through the opening of a veterans’ resource center.
