BACKGROUND:

• Becker, 40, of Dix Hills, is a sales manager for HVAC supply company InterCounty Supply Inc. He has worked in the HVAC industry for about a decade and previously worked in sales in the armored truck industry. This is his first run for public office.
• Becker has a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Southern California and a certificate in air conditioning and refrigeration from Eastern Suffolk BOCES.
• Becker, who is the father of two children with special needs, said he is a member of the nonprofit SOAR (Support Our Autism Rainbow), which aims to promote autism awareness and provide social development programming in the Half Hollow Hills School District.

ISSUES:

• Becker said he would use his business background to bring fiscal responsibility to the county. He said he would look to streamline operations and root out waste in the budget to avoid tax and fee hikes. He also wants to help raise the county’s bond rating and fiscal stress standing by the state comptroller’s office.
• Becker said he wants to make it easier for residents to report potholes. He wants to create a simplified website or app that would allow residents to click on a map to report potholes.
• Becker said he is concerned about the environment and water quality. He wants to use his HVAC background to improve air quality in public buildings and countywide.
