BACKGROUND

  • Sochet, 65, of Syosset, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. He has been vice president of the Syosset Public Library board of trustees since 2020. 
  • He was named New York City principal of the year in 2019 while working at Martin Van Buren High School in Queens.  
  • This is his first bid for public office. 

ISSUES

  • Sochet said he wants to improve transparency in the Town of Oyster Bay, including by moving board meetings to the evening to improve attendance. 
  • He said he wants to improve housing options for younger people by giving developers incentives for residences that working professionals can afford.
  • He wants to prioritize paving of roads that he believes are neglected within the town.
