Michael A. Durso is running for New York State Assembly - 9th District
BACKGROUND
- Durso, 44, of Massapequa Park, is running on the Republican Party line and is seeking reelection to a third term representing the 9th Assembly District, which covers much of Massapequa, Massapequa Park, Farmingdale, Babylon, West Babylon, North Babylon and a small part of Lindenhurst and West Islip.
- Durso was a sanitation worker for Oyster Bay Town from 2005 until after his election in 2019, and had worked part time as a public safety officer at Hofstra University.
- He was also a labor union negotiator or shop steward when he held those jobs.
 
ISSUES
- Durso said that since being elected he has pushed for increasing training in the trades, BOCES, apprenticeships and career and technical education programs and .
- He said he advocates for reducing crime by punishing lawbreakers and tightening bail laws.
- Durso said funding should go toward universal free lunches for schoolchildren instead of for migrants in New York City and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
