BACKGROUND:
- Durso, 42, of Massapequa Park, was elected to the Assembly in 2020 and is seeking a second term.
- He is also running on the Conservative line. He is the ranking member of the Assembly Science and Technology Committee.
- A carpenter by trade, he previously worked as a sanitation supervisor for the Town of Oyster Bay and as a public safety officer at Hofstra University.
ISSUES:
- Durso said that he is a “huge advocate” for law enforcement and has proposed a bill with harsher penalties for those who commit violence against first responders.
- He said that as a graduate of the Nassau BOCES carpentry program, he has advocated for additional funding for vocational programs for young people.
- Durso said that with a background as a Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) and Teamsters member, he advocates on the Assembly Labor Committee for “workplace safety and proper pay for Long Island’s union men and women.”
