- Westervelt, 69, of Shelter Island, is running on the Democratic and Republican party lines in the general election.
- She has been Town Justice since 2011 and is running unopposed for reelection as Town Justice.
- Westervelt is a partner in the Shelter Island law firm of Westervelt & Rea, LLP, she concentrates on elder law, real estate, contracts, trusts and estates.
- She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1975. In 1988, she started a four-year night school program at Touro College’s Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, earning her law degree in 1992, while working full-time as a deputy division manager of procurement and then as manager at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
- Westervelt began working at Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1976 and retired in 2014.
