BACKGROUND:

• Mattera, 59, of St. James, is seeking his second term in office. He also is running on the Conservative line.
• He is a business agent for Plumbers Local Union 200, of which he has been a member for 42 years. He has been a trustee of its benefits plan for 20 years.
• Mattera graduated from the New York State Apprenticeship program.

ISSUES:

• Mattera said his top infrastructure priority is more sewage connections and treatment plants to help protect the aquifer and the quality of residents' water supply.
• He supports repealing the bail reforms that took effect in 2020 and working to draft a bail plan that "gets judges, PBAs and DAs to the table to come up with the right bail reform plan."
• Mattera said he will work against a proposed congestion pricing plan for New York City, meant to ease congestion and encourage more drivers to use mass transit, because the fees imposed on vehicles entering Manhattan below 60th Street will raise the cost of goods for Long Islanders.
