VOTERS GUIDE Presidential, Congressional and Long Island voters guide for Nov. 5, 2024 election

Lisa Lin

Lisa Lin is running for New York State Senator - 5th District

Lisa Lin

BACKGROUND

  • Lin, 38, of Merrick, is the Supervising Court Attorney for Queens County Criminal Court, where she said she oversees a team of attorneys who assist judges by conducting legal research and drafting court decisions.
  • Lin, who is making her first run for public office, began her career in public service helping justice-involved youth to reintegrate into their communities through job training, educational programs and by connecting them with opportunities.
  • Lin received her Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law in 2013.

ISSUES

  • Lin said she is running for State Senate because as someone who is raising a family she understands the challenges Long Islanders are facing when it comes to affordability. If elected, she said she would work to eliminate wasteful spending and prioritize putting money back into the pockets of working families.
  • She said she also would focus on public safety and fully funding law enforcement so they have the resources they need. She said she plans to work to get illegal guns off the streets and would support community-based programs that prevent crime before it happens and build strong bonds between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
  • Lin said she is determined to ensure that New York State continues to be a “bastion of reproductive freedom.” She supports making abortion a constitutional right at the state level and ensuring New Yorkers have access to a full range of reproductive healthcare services, and stressed the importance of protecting healthcare providers from harassment, intimidation and violence.
