Keith M. Corbett

KEITH CORBETT

DEMOCRATIC

BACKGROUND: Corbett, 43, is running for the Democrat Party line. He is seeking a two-year term to succeed Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-Garden City). Corbett has served as mayor of Malverne since 2019 and works as an attorney for the Harris Beach law firm.

ISSUES: Corbett vowed to protect voting rights if elected by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. He lists a history of representing Democratic candidates running for office and defending voting rights at poll sites and fighting voter suppression. He previously represented President Joe Biden in his New York campaign and worked to defend President Barack Obama’s birth certificate from fraudulent allegations from Donald Trump.

Corbett defended a woman’s right to choose and advocated for abortion rights in light of the decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. He said the government should never interfere with a person’s medical decisions and women should have control over their bodies. He promised to combat government overreach. He has promised to protect the environment and work to combat climate change. He has pushed for solar and wind power in Nassau County and worked to stop additional sewage being pumped into Reynolds Channel to restore the ecological habitat along the coastline. He noted the damage Long Island has from storms like Superstorm Sandy and promised to work to protect the region from future storms.

'It's disappointing and it's unfortunate' Suffolk Police Officer David Mascarella is back on the job after causing a 2020 crash that severely injured Riordan Cavooris, then 2. NewsdayTV's Andrew Ehinger and Newsday investigative reporter Paul LaRocco have the story.
