Diana Reyna is running for Lieutenant Governor — Democratic
DIANA REYNA
DEMOCRAT
BACKGROUND: Reyna, 48, is a first-generation Dominican-American who was born and raised in Brooklyn. Reyna, who has been in public service for two decades, received a bachelor's degree from Pace University. She served on the New York City Council for 12 years, representing Williamsburg and Bushwick in Brooklyn, and Ridgewood, Queens. She later served as deputy Brooklyn borough president under then-President Eric Adams, now the New York City mayor, from 2014-2017.
ISSUES: Reyna and her running mate, Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), have focused heavily on public safety, including reforming new statewide bail laws, gun control measures and expanding violence prevention programs. Reyna has pledged to implement and expand affordable housing programs and initiatives that would move more New Yorkers out of public housing. “There’s an opportunity here to provide the tools and invest in them becoming homeowners,†Reyna said at a recent lieutenant governor debate. Reyna also has campaigned on lowering property and state income taxes, fixing underperforming schools and increasing spending on local infrastructure.
