Calone, 43, of Setauket, is running on the Independence party line. Since 2006, he is the managing director of Jove Equity Partners, an East Setauket venture capital firm that helps to start and build technology companies. Calone was a litigation associate with the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in Manhattan from 2005 to 2006. From 2004 to 2005, he was special assistant attorney general for the New York State attorney general’s office, where he investigated and prosecuted health care fraud and public corruption. He was a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice from 1999 to 2003, handling financial crime and terrorism cases, where he was the recipient of a national Attorney General Award. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in 1996 where he was student body president and was named an Academic All-American by USA Today. He received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1999. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2000. Since 2014, Calone has served as national board chair for Patriot Boot Camp, an organization that helps veterans start tech companies. He has been a board member of Accelerate Long Island since 2012, and of the United Way of Long Island since 2009, and of the Long Island Angel Network since 2010. From 2008 to 2015, Calone served as chairman of the Suffolk County Planning Commission. From 2012 to 2015, he was a board member of the Community Development Corp of Long Island, and he was a trustee of the Long Island Power Authority from 2009 to 2012.
