CHRISTINE PELLEGRINO
Democratic
BACKGROUND:
- Pellegrino, 54, of West Islip, is also running on the Working Families Party line.
- She was elected to the New York State Assembly in a special election in 2017, where she represented the 9th Assembly District in Albany until 2019. She ran to represent District 4 in the state senate in 2020 but lost in the general election to former Sen. Phil Boyle.
- Before politics, she worked as a teacher for 25 years in the Baldwin school district. Since leaving office, she has been working in the private sector, including at a nonprofit focused on the home care industry.
ISSUES:
- Pellegrino said one area of focus would be on improving town services, with a particular emphasis on permitting reform, which she said is currently “expensive and frustrating to individuals and businesses.” She said she would alos advocate for holding town meetings at times when more residents can attend.
- Creating “an equitable plan” for maintaining infrastructure would also be a priority, she said, which would include road maintenance, sidewalks, shorelines and cleaning up parks.
- She also said she would seek solutions to complaints about Bay Shore residents paying meters to park downtown.
