BACKGROUND:
- Fleming, 62, of Noyac, has served in the Suffolk County Legislature since 2015.
- She previously served on the Southampton Town Board.
- She was an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
- She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hunter College and the University of Virginia School of Law in 1991.
ISSUES:
- Fleming supports abortion rights and other reproductive rights and would support making a law of the rights provided under the original Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision.
- She said she will work to restore the federal deduction for property taxes limited in 2017 by the Republican-controlled Congress at the time and then-President Donald Trump.
- She supports a national ban on assault weapons.
- She also supports a campaign financing system based on small donors to reduce the influence of big-money contributors and she supports the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act.
