What individuals deduct
Long Islanders claimed nearly $2.8 billion in charitable donations on their federal tax returns for 2015, the latest data available from the Internal Revenue Service. That number has risen and fallen in recent years in each county, although on the state level, the total has risen consistently since a decrease in 2011.
