Pensions for state and local governments in New York

Nassau and Suffolk counties have the most former employees drawing a state pension and account for the largest total amount of pension payments in the state system, which excludes New York City. According to data from the state comptroller obtained under the Freedom of Information Law, 11 governmental units on Long Island are among the top 20 in the state for average pensions paid. Six of those are villages: Kensington, Sands Point, Kings Point, Old Brookville, Woodbury and Westbury.

This database is based on former employees receiving payment under the New York State and Local Retirement System and as such does not include most part-time or seasonal employees who would not be eligible for pensions. State employees are grouped here by department or division. And while clerical and other school district employees are included here by district, we have a separate database of pensions for former teachers and administrators.

You can search and sort within this list of 3,792 governments and agencies such as the Division of State Police, Port Authority of N.Y. & N.J. and the Education Department for the 2017-18 fiscal year, which ended on March 31. Clicking on an "employer" name will bring you to a list of employees for the two years. Or you can go directly to that database of individual pension payments.
