Long Island job levels in December

The total, non-farm sector job count on Long Island rose 4,900 to more than 1.357 million in December 2017 compared with the same month a year earlier, according to the state Labor Department. Leading the gains were private educational and health services sector, which was up 7,500 jobs in December, and leisure and hospitality, up 4,200 jobs in December from the year before. Leading the declines were the trade, transportation and utilities sector, which was down 4,000 jobs; professional and business services, which fell by 1,900, and manufacturing, which fell by 1,500.
