Watching Governor Cuomo’s State of the State/Budget address today, I felt proud of New York, and for a brief moment forgot about the math.

As someone who frequently avails himself of roads, rails, bridges and tunnels, I’d be a hypocrite to dismiss spending on improvements. But when grand ideas cost multiple billions of dollars — and I have an opportunity to caricature our governor — even a cartoonist starts to think about math.
