Siela A. Bynoe is running for Nassau County Legislator, 2nd District
SIELA A. BYNOE
Democratic
BACKGROUND:
- Bynoe, 55, of Westbury, was first elected to the Legislature in a special election in 2014. She is seeking a fifth full term.
- She is a former member of the Westbury School Board and a former executive director of the Huntington Housing Authority.
- She graduated from Nassau Community College and Hofstra University, as well as LIU Post, where she earned a master’s in public administration.
ISSUES:
- Bynoe said she has secured $65 million in capital funds for infrastructure upgrades in her legislative district, including for roads in Westbury, Hempstead and Lakeview.
- A big part of her advocacy is adding mental health workers to emergency responses. She introduced legislation to have a mental health crisis team embedded into the county’s 911 responses.
- She touted her efforts to conserve water through passage of a smart-sprinkler incentive program, and advocacy of efforts to identify contaminants in the county’s drinking water. She also advocated for a policy in which the county’s Industrial Development Agency provides tax incentives to manufacturers that work to mitigate their environmental footprint.
