VOTERS GUIDE Long Island Voters Guide: Nov. 8, 2022, elections for New York, Nassau & Suffolk

Sanjeev Kumar Jindal

Sanjeev Kumar Jindal is running for New York State Assembly - 19th District

Sanjeev Kumar Jindal

SANJEEV KUMAR JINDAL

DEMOCRAT

BACKGROUND:

  • Jindal, 45, of Williston Park, owns an insurance brokerage company and makes his first Assembly run, after losing a 2021 bid for a New York City Council seat from Queens, where he has a second home.
  • He said he owned an urban planning consultant business in India, helping to design cities, before immigrating to New York City in 2003 with $20. He has lived in Nassau since 2007.
  • He helped create the nonprofit South Asians for Empowerment, which provides language, housing and other services to immigrants and domestic violence victims.

ISSUES:

  • He would help small businesses start up or bounce back from the pandemic through a “comprehensive” bill that would include a public-private partnership and grants.
  • Getting rid of New York City’s congestion pricing for drivers would protect Long Islanders who drive to work due to the Island’s limited public transportation options.
  • He would fight for women’s rights, including pro-choice.
  • Except for assault rifles, he supports gun ownership but would strive for common sense gun laws, such as gun permit renewals based on passing mental health checkups every year or two.
