BACKGROUND
- Herskowitz, 43, of Northport, is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election.
- He was an administrative law judge for New York City’s Department of Finance until September 2023.
- Herskowitz earned a bachelor’s degree in communications, law, economics and government from American University in Washington, D.C., and a law degree from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut.
ISSUES
- Herskowitz said that if elected, a priority is making sure Long Island gets its “fair share” of state funds and said he would work with the finance committee chair to identify regional projects to fund, such as connecting more residents to sewers.
- He said he wants to pressure the federal government to provide more funding to the state for the costs of housing migrants while ensuring they can work and contribute to the economy.
- Herskowitz said he wants to make Long Island more affordable for younger people. He said he would work to get more funding from the state for “smart development projects” such as those that help teachers, first responders and others get homes.
