Plaut said she is "disappointed by the county government's irresponsible stewardship, especially the financial negligence and corruption that have Nassau close to bankruptcy." Plaut continued, "We need to address the financial mismanagement and unethical contracting practices that contribute to Nassau County being on the brink of bankruptcy while our taxes continue to skyrocket." Plaut opposes building casinos in Nassau County "without community approval."
Plaut, 45, is running on the Democratic, Women's Equality and Working Families lines. Plaut is director of an early childhood center in Suffolk County. She was elected a Lawrence school board trustee in 2013. Plaut is active in civic organizations. She helped create and direct a superstorm Sandy relief center, and runs an annual marathon to raise money for an organization that provides support for children with life-threatening illness. Plaut is married and has five children.
