Capetola, 59, of Woodbury is running on the Republican and Democratic party lines. She has been an acting state Supreme Court judge since 2007. She has served almost 18 years as a Family Court judge after winning her first election in 1997 and winning re-election in 2007. Capetola was a matrimonial referee for state Supreme Court in Nassau County before her election to the bench, where she presided over preliminary conferences and advised litigants. She has handled immigration, criminal and civil cases for several law firms and was a law secretary for three state Supreme Court justices. She graduated from the University at Buffalo in 1977. She received her law degree from St. John's University School of Law in 1980. She was admitted to the state bar in 1981. She is a member of the New York State, Nassau County and Nassau County Women's bar associations.
