Raia said she is most proud of implementing an award-winning historical archive system that has been used as a model for the state. She points out that one of the responsibilities of the town clerk is to serve as the official secretary of the town board. She said in that role over the years she has tried to broaden the communication between the town government and residents. She said one major way she is able to do this is by taking correspondence from residents about issues they wish to bring before the town board, and forwarding it to the town board and or the town attorney.
Raia, 75, of Huntington, is running unopposed on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform lines. She has been town clerk for 33 years. She was the 2002 New York State town clerk of the year and the 2001 Nassau-Suffolk Town Clerks' Association town clerk of the year. She is also a registered municipal clerk, certified by the state Town Clerks Association.
