Flanagan, 59, of Middle Island, is running on the Republican, Conservative, Independence, and Reform party lines. He has been an acting Suffolk County Court judge since January 2011. Flanagan was elected to district court in 2003 and 2009 and was law secretary to Supreme Court Justice Ralph Costello from January 1997 to 2003. From September 1986 to December 1996, Flanagan was a senior trial attorney at CIGNA Insurance in Woodbury. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Fordham University in 1977 and an MBA from Dowling College in 1995. He received his law degree from New York Law School in 1980 and is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association. He also served as dean at the Suffolk Academy of Law from June 2013 to May 2015.
