Dittko did not return repeated phone messages seeking comment. In a statement, the Suffolk County Democratic Committee said Dittko has proposed a 100-acre county nature preserve in Manorville and has opposed projects such as a gas station on County Road 111 and a 25-home development on a former sewage dump. Dittko has "demanded that the town planning board adhere to the zoning in our hamlet studies," and has petitioned the board "to reassess all highly dense multicomplex developments," the committee said. "Doug has keen negotiation skills and demands accountability in all phases of project proposals by the Brookhaven Town Board and planning board. Doug frequents town board and planning board meetings, and has established a discourse with town and planning board members," the committee said.
